Momentum Sahih Braces Muslim Education In Kenya

By Francis Muendo

The Islam community is a rapidly growing religion, especially in the coastal regions of Kenya, representing 10.9% of Kenya’s population. This religion has faced marginalization, politically and economically, leading to increased exposure to radicalization, drugs & crime.

According to the Holy Quran, education is a divine command for both Muslim men and women, who are obligated to increase their knowledge. The initial revelation to Prophet Mohammed says:

“Read. Read in the name of thy Lord who created; [He] created the human being from blood clot. Read in the name of thy Lord who taught by the pen: [He] taught the human being what he did not know.” (Q96: 1-5)

Education is introduced to Muslims in their primary stages in life as Madrasa, taking up religious education. However, challenges such as poverty, marginalization, apathy, political interference and social acceptance hinder these students’ success resulting in unlearned and unemployed young adults.

With this in mind, at the onset of 2022, Momentum Sahih set up the Momentum Sahih Scholarship Fund to fully fund deserving but needy Muslim students who exhibited exemplary performance in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

Through this fund, 15 students secured places in their dream schools across the country. Momentum Sahih is proud to be part of these students’ amazing educational journey. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.
